About
The Hérault Departmental Archives present a guided tour of their photographic collections, spanning from 19th-century processes to contemporary uses, at the Archives départementales de l'Hérault in Montpellier from 19 to 20 September 2026.
The Archives départementales de l'Hérault open their photographic collections to the public with an accessible guided tour spanning the full history of photography.
From the pioneering techniques of the 19th century to contemporary documentary and artistic practices, the tour draws on public archives, private family albums and the work of individual photographers to tell the story of photography as a medium of memory and heritage.
The tour invites participants to look afresh at the photographic image as both historical evidence and cultural legacy. It is open to all and takes place on 19 and 20 September 2026 as part of the European Heritage Days.
