This concert, presented under the KONTRAST series, brings together two string quartets — Seraphim Quartet and LAiKA Quartet — for an evening spanning over two centuries of music. The programme ranges from the transparent, melodic writing of Joseph Haydn to the bold voice of Carl Nielsen and on to Steve Reich's minimalist masterwork.
Steve Reich's 'Different Trains' is the centrepiece of the evening: the piece weaves together live string quartet playing, spoken-word recordings and the recorded sounds of trains into a meditation on memory, movement and unease. The work draws on Reich's childhood train journeys across the United States and contrasts them with the very different train journeys being made in Europe during the same period.
The concert takes place in The Studio Hall at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Rosenørns Allé 22, Frederiksberg. Doors open for a 19:30 start, with the performance running until approximately 21:30.
