About
The Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor sits in Lintong District, on the outskirts of Xi'an in Shaanxi Province, China. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the place most visitors know as the Terracotta Army, the name often used for the whole complex.
What you will see
The site holds the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor, and the thousands of life-sized terracotta warriors and horses buried with him. The figures stand in formation within the pits excavated around the tomb, and the scale of the group is what most people remember. The complex is also officially called the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, so you may see both names on signs and tickets.

Around the site
The mausoleum lies within Xi'an, a city with a long history as the capital of many dynasties, so a visit here fits well into a longer stay. Pairing the site with other parts of the city and province gives a fuller picture of the period the warriors come from. Plan some time for the surrounding area as well as the pits themselves.
