About

Hermit's Rest is a historic stone shelter on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, at the end of Hermit Road in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. It is also known as the Hermits Rest Overlook. The building was designed by Mary Colter, and its rustic stonework sits comfortably among the rock formations along the rim.

What to expect

Hermit's Rest is best suited to a relaxed visit rather than a long hike. The shelter and the viewpoints around it offer wide views into the canyon, and the setting is especially well regarded for sunset. Visitors who want to watch the light change over the canyon walls can stay on after the sun drops.

Getting there and around

  • Hermit Road runs west from the main village area of the South Rim and ends at the shelter.
  • The address is Hermit Road, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023.
  • From here, the Hermit Trail begins, for those who wish to walk down into the canyon.
