Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the U.S. state of Texas and the 13th-largest city in the United States. It is located in North Central Texas, and is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. The city of Fort Worth was established in 1849 as an army outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. Today, Fort Worth still embraces its Western heritage and traditional architecture and design. Downtown Fort Worth is home to the nationally recognized Sundance Square, a vibrant commercial and entertainment district filled with restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. The city is also home to several major museums, including the Kimbell Art Museum, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.
