Les Boréades is a Quebec-based baroque ensemble presenting a programme dedicated to 17th-century English and German chamber music. The concert pairs two parallel musical traditions: on the English side, works by Matthew Locke, Henry Purcell, and John Blow; on the German side, compositions by Johann Adam Reincken, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, and Dieterich Buxtehude.
The four performers — Francis Colpron, Olivier Brault, Mélisande Corriveau, and Christophe Gauthier — form an intimate ensemble of recorders, violin, viola da gamba, and harpsichord, recreating the atmosphere of aristocratic salons and court music from the era before public concerts became common.
