About

Un pays d'Europe du Sud-Est avec un long littoral adriatique et plus de 1 000 îles. Célèbre pour ses villes médiévales, ses parcs nationaux et ses lieux de tournage de Game of Thrones.

Croatia is a country in Southeast Europe, set along the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea. Its coastline is long and deeply indented, and it is fringed by more than 1,000 islands, so a visit can move easily between mainland towns, quiet harbours and island stops. The country is also known by its full name, the Republic of Croatia, and by its local name, Hrvatska.

Much of the appeal lies in its medieval cities. Walled old towns, stone streets and waterfront squares give many places a sense of age that is easy to explore on foot. Visitors who enjoy history, architecture and slow walking will find plenty to fill a day in these towns.

Nature and landscape

Inland, Croatia offers national parks, where lakes, forests and waterfalls make a clear contrast with the sea. Between coast and park, a trip can combine swimming and boat time with walking and wildlife viewing.

Filming locations

Several places in Croatia served as filming locations for the television series Game of Thrones. Fans of the show often plan visits around these sites, though the country's medieval towns and coastline reward visitors regardless of that connection.

Planning a visit

  • Choose a base on the coast for sea views and island connections.
  • Allow time for at least one national park to see the interior.
  • Plan walks through the old towns, especially in the early morning or evening.
