About

Petit village norvégien situé au fond du Geirangerfjord, célèbre pour ses cascades spectaculaires et ses paysages de fjord classés au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.

Geiranger is a small village in Møre og Romsdal, on the western coast of Norway, sitting at the head of the Geirangerfjord. It is a place many visitors come to for the landscape itself: steep mountainsides rising directly from deep blue water, and a fjord that the surrounding scenery makes feel both wide and enclosed at once.

What draws visitors

The fjord is the centre of any visit. Its scenery is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the village is known for its dramatic waterfalls, which tumble down the slopes into the water below. Much of the pleasure lies simply in watching the light change across the cliffs and falls over the course of a day.

  • Viewing the fjord and its waterfalls from the water or from the shore
  • Walking in the hills and valleys around the village
  • Photographing the cliffs, falls and fjord at different times of day

Planning a visit

Geiranger is small, so it suits a slower pace. Many people arrive for a day or two, enough to see the fjord from more than one vantage point. Because the village is set in a narrow valley among tall mountains, it rewards those who take time to look up as well as out across the water. Bring layers, as weather in the fjord can change quickly, and check transport connections in advance, since the village is remote compared with larger Norwegian towns.

If you are looking for a quiet, scenic stop with a strong sense of place, Geiranger offers a focused and memorable visit, built around one of Norway's best-known natural settings.
