Palæ Bar

📍 Danemark
lively bar

Palæ Bar sits on Ny Adelgade in central Copenhagen, a short walk from Kongens Nytorv, Nyhavn and the Royal Theatre. It is a food and drink spot with a lively bar scene, and it is open every day of the week, which makes it a convenient stop whatever day you are in the city.

The bar opened in 1984 under the Palæ Bar name, in premises that had previously housed Café Thit and then Selandia Bar. Today it is known for its atmosphere: a cosy room decorated with a collection of old and new enamel signs that gives the place a distinctive, lived-in character.

Jazz at Palæ

Music is a central part of the bar's identity. Palæ Bar hosts a jazz session every third Sunday, a regular fixture that runs through nearly the whole year. The bar also takes part in the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and during the festival it awards the Palæ Bar Jazz Prize, which it set up in 1990.

If you are planning a visit around music, check the bar's website for the current programme before you go, as the jazz sessions follow their own schedule.

What kind of visit it makes

Palæ Bar suits an unhurried evening or a relaxed drink in a room with character rather than a large, showy venue. Its location near some of the city's best-known sights makes it an easy addition to a day of walking around the centre.

For reservations, opening details and the latest events, the bar's own website is the best place to look. You can also reach the bar by phone on +45 33 12 54 71.
