About
Nørrebro Teater is a theatre on Ravnsborggade, in the heart of the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen. The guide describes it as a historic venue with a long place in the city's cultural life, dating back to the late 19th century. Its own website describes it as one of Denmark's most significant theatres, with room for 620 spectators.
What to expect
The theatre's programme has changed over time. Earlier, the guide noted a mix of popular musicals, comedies and contemporary Danish productions. Since August 2025, the programme has been organised into four strands: theatre, talks and meetings, art and performance, and music. Visitors who enjoy a range of live work across these forms will find something to suit them, and the mix makes each visit a little different.
The building and its identity
The theatre has a visual identity that looks back to its origins. A new look, created by the Munich-based design studio Bureau Borsche, takes its inspiration from the original 1932 sign designed by the architect Vilhelm Lauritzen. A new foyer, designed by Mentze Ottenstein, was planned to open from spring 2026, so the building may feel different from earlier visits.
Leadership
Since May 2024, the theatre has been led by Janne Villadsen as director and Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen as artistic director.
Planning a visit
Nørrebro is a lively district, and the theatre's location makes it easy to combine a performance with time spent in the neighbourhood before or after. For current programme details, dates and opening times, it is best to check the theatre's website or call the box office on +45 35 35 27 60.
