Maaloula is a small village located in the Rif Mountains of Syria, about 50 kilometers northeast of Damascus. It is famous for its ancient Semitic language, which is still spoken by some of the locals. The village is home to several ancient churches and monasteries, including the Mar Sarkis Monastery and the Convent of Saint Thecla.
