What does the word dinosaur mean?

Dinosaur is derived from the Greek words deinos, meaning "terrible," and sauros, meaning "lizard" or "reptile." It is used to describe any species of large, extinct reptile that lived on Earth during the Mesozoic Era, which lasted from about 252 to 66 million years ago.
