Why is Milford Sound called Piopiotahi?

Milford Sound is called Piopiotahi in the Māori language, which translates to "single piopio". The name was given to the sound by Māori explorer and navigator Kupe who discovered it during his travels around Aotearoa (New Zealand) in the 10th century.
