About

南岛最大的城市,以其英国传统、美丽花园以及2011年地震后持续进行的重建而闻名。是通往Canterbury Plains和Southern Alps的门户。

Christchurch is the largest city on New Zealand's South Island, set in the Canterbury region of Oceania. It is often called the Garden City, a name that suits its many parks and carefully tended gardens, and it carries a strong English heritage in its architecture, street layout and cultural habits.

The city is also in the middle of a long rebuild. Following the earthquake of 2011, much of the central city was reshaped, and visitors will see a mix of new construction and older buildings that have been kept or restored. Walking through the centre gives a clear sense of that recovery and of how the city is changing.

What a visit offers

  • Gardens and parks: green space is woven through the city, making it easy to spend a relaxed afternoon outdoors.
  • English heritage: the city's character reflects its settler past, visible in its streetscapes and traditions.
  • The rebuild: the changing central city offers a direct view of a community reshaping its public spaces.

Beyond the city

Christchurch works well as a base for exploring the wider region. It is a gateway to the Canterbury Plains, which stretch inland from the coast, and to the Southern Alps, whose mountains rise to the west. Whether you want open farmland views or mountain scenery, the city puts both within reach, making it a practical starting point for a visit to the South Island.
