About
Kjosfossen is a waterfall in Flåmsdalen, in the Aurland area of Norway, a short distance from the village of Flåm. It falls about 225 metres and is one of the best-known sights along the Flåm valley.
What makes it easy to visit is the railway. The Flam Railway makes a scheduled stop at the falls, so passengers travelling between Flåm and the mountain plateau can step off the train and stand close to the cascade. The sound of the falling water is strong at the foot of the fall, and the spray is part of the experience, so a waterproof layer is worth bringing.
What to expect
- A single, tall waterfall set in a steep, green valley.
- A scheduled stop on the Flam Railway, so the visit fits into a train journey.
- In summer months, performances linked to the Huldra legend are held at the falls.
Because the stop depends on the train timetable, check departure times before you plan the rest of your day. Flåm itself, at the end of the fjord branch, offers a harbour, cafés and shops, and is a convenient base for exploring the valley.
