About
La Giralda, also known as the Giralda Tower, is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral and one of the city's most recognizable symbols. It stands on Avenida de la Constitución in the centre of Seville, in Andalusia, Spain, close to the cathedral it belongs to.
What you will see
Originally built as a minaret for the Great Mosque that once occupied this site, the tower was later incorporated into the cathedral. Rising 104 metres, it is a striking presence in the skyline, and its shape is visible from many parts of the old town. Its history as a minaret gives the visit a layered character: the structure you climb carries traces of the building that came before the cathedral.
The view from the top
The main reason many visitors go up is the panoramic view over the city. From the upper level you look across Seville's rooftops, its churches and its surrounding streets, which gives a clear sense of how the old quarter is laid out. It is a good way to orient yourself before exploring on foot.
