About
Keys View is a viewpoint in Joshua Tree National Park in California, reached by Keys View Road from the Twentynine Palms area. At 5,185 feet, it is the highest accessible point in the park, and it is also known as Desert View Overlook.
What the visit offers
From the overlook, the land falls away to the Coachella Valley, and the line of the San Andreas Fault can be traced across the scene. It makes a short stop rather than a long excursion, and it suits visitors who want wide views without a hike.
- Panoramic views over the Coachella Valley
- The San Andreas Fault visible across the landscape
- On clear days, the Salton Sea and, further off, Mexico
Planning your stop
Clear weather matters most here, since the more distant features, including the Salton Sea and Mexico, depend on visibility. The viewpoint is a good addition to a drive through the park, and the surrounding Joshua Tree landscape gives context to the views you see from the edge.
