About
Mazaher is a group of musicians and singers based in Cairo who have kept Egyptian zār traditions alive since the late 1990s. Their concert in Copenhagen takes place at ALICE on 6 February 2027 at 21:00. It was rescheduled after the loss of a band member, and tickets bought for the original date remain valid for the new one.
About the music
The zār is a ritual in which women lead the proceedings, and it is built on song, dance and polyrhythmic drumming. At this concert you can expect the sound of two central instruments: the six-stringed tamboura and the percussion instrument mangour. Among the musicians performing with the group are Um Sameh, Um Hassan and Nour El Sabah.
