About
Each year, Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen invites a designer or artist to reimagine the Christmas table, and this year marks the fifth time the museum has done so. The current table is the work of Skov Studio, a design and woodworking studio run by twin sisters Julie and Simone Lundgaard.
The forest as theme
Skov Studio takes the forest as its starting point. The table is set with plates, cutlery and cups made of wood, and several objects refer to classic Christmas baubles, linking the familiar festive decoration to the natural material at the centre of the display.
Wood shaped by time
- Some pieces were turned in wet wood, so that the wood's movement as it dried helped form the final shape.
- Knots, growth rings and traces of decay are kept visible rather than removed.
- The studio, based in Jelling, works mainly with local wood from forest management, storm fall and felled trees.
Planning a visit
The table is displayed in the room between the entrance hall and the café. It can be seen during the museum's opening hours from 30 November to 30 December. Because it sits in a passage used on the way to the café, it makes a short and easy stop within a visit to the museum. Further details about the event are available on the museum's website.
