About
Wamen: Soul & Chanson Concert is a concert by the Franco-Cameroonian singer Wamen, presented at Victoire 2 in Montpellier on 20 March 2027. It is a stop on her tour of France following the release of her debut album, Vie d'adulte.
The show
Wamen sings soul and chanson, and the performance takes place in the venue's Grande salle, a standing room. Those who prefer to move around, or to stand close to the stage, will find the format suits them.
Her influences, as she names them, range widely: Henri Dikongué, Jacques Brel, Lady Ponce, Édith Piaf, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. Listeners who know these artists will hear some of that lineage in her songs, which sit between the French chanson tradition and American soul.
About the artist
Wamen grew up in Cameroon until the age of 16 before living in France. She is named after her grandmother, whose memory she keeps alive on stage. Her song Discipline has become an anthem, denouncing sexism that has come to seem normal, and it is often the song audiences speak of afterwards.
Her first album followed the project RE, and she has already played a sold-out date at La Maroquinerie and at La Cigale before setting out on this tour.
