About
Iguazu Falls sits on the border between Argentina and Brazil, close to Foz do Iguaçu on the Brazilian side and Puerto Iguazú in Misiones Province on the Argentine side. The falls are also known as Cataratas do Iguaçu, Iguassu Falls, Iguazú Falls and Cataratas del Iguazú, so you may see any of these names on signs, maps and tickets.
What you will see
The falls are made up of more than 270 separate cascades spread across a front of nearly two miles. Rather than one great drop, the water pours over a broad curving edge, so the view changes as you move along the paths. Many visitors find that the sheer width of the scene is what stays with them.
Why it makes a worthwhile visit
- The falls can be seen from both countries, so you can compare the views from each side.
- The paths and viewpoints let you move at your own pace, from the water's edge to the wider panorama.
- Because the falls straddle a national border, a trip often works well as a day spent in both countries.
Planning your trip
Plan your time around the falls rather than treating them as a quick stop. Both towns offer places to stay, eat and arrange onward travel, and the surrounding region of Misiones Province adds to a longer stay.
