About

这是一处联合国教科文组织世界遗产地,拥有欧洲最高瀑布之一,水流从422米高的石灰岩峭壁倾泻而下。这片天然圆形剧场地形提供了难度适中的徒步路线,沿途风景令人叹为观止。

The Cirque de Gavarnie is a natural amphitheatre in the high Pyrenees, in the Occitania region of southern France. It is a place where the mountains rise in a great curved wall of limestone, and where one of Europe's highest waterfalls falls about 422 metres down the cliffs. The site is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it draws visitors who come to see the landscape for its own sake.

What a visit is like

The setting is the main draw. Standing at the floor of the cirque, you look up at the sheer cliffs and the thin ribbon of water tumbling from above. The scale is hard to take in from a photograph, and many visitors spend a long time simply looking.

Reaching the cirque on foot is described as relatively easy, which makes it accessible to a wide range of walkers. The rewards are considerable for the effort, so it suits a visitor who wants a full day in the mountains without a demanding climb. Good footwear and a sense of the weather are sensible preparation, as conditions in high mountain country can change quickly.

Plan around it

  • Allow time for the walk in and for a long pause at the amphitheatre itself.
  • Bring water, food and warm layers, since there is little around the cirque once you are on the trail.
  • Combine the visit with the wider Pyrenean landscape of the area, which offers further walks and mountain views.

For anyone who enjoys dramatic natural scenery and gentle to moderate walking, the Cirque de Gavarnie is a rewarding destination in the French Pyrenees.
