About
Jebel Hafeet is a mountain in Al Ain, in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, and at 1,249 metres it is the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates. It is also known as Hafeet Mountain. Rising above the city's desert edges, it draws visitors who want to combine a scenic drive with a walk through deep history.
Ancient tombs and archaeology
The mountain is home to archaeological sites and ancient tombs dating back about 5,000 years. The remains give a sense of how long people have lived and gathered in this part of the desert, and they are a reason many visitors choose to stop here rather than simply pass through.
Part of the Al Ain heritage landscape
Jebel Hafeet forms part of the Al Ain UNESCO World Heritage site, which connects the mountain to the wider oasis city and its ancient settlements. Seeing it alongside the rest of Al Ain helps place the tombs and the landscape in context.
What a visit offers
- Views over the mountain and the surrounding desert and city
