About

保护着加勒比海地区最大的湖泊和该地区的最低点,是美洲鳄和火烈鸟的家园。

Lago Enriquillo National Park, known in Spanish as Parque Nacional Lago Enriquillo, lies in Barahona Province in the Dominican Republic. It protects Lake Enriquillo, the largest lake in the Caribbean, and the low ground that surrounds it, which is the lowest point in the region.

What you will see

The park is best known for its wildlife. Visitors can look out for two animals that draw most attention here:

  • American crocodiles, which live in the lake's waters
  • Flamingos, which are found across the lake and its shores

Because the park is a protected area, a visit suits people who enjoy birdwatching, nature photography, and slow, open landscapes rather than built attractions. The setting is one of wide water and dry land, quite different from the coastal beaches many travellers associate with the Caribbean.

Planning your visit

The park sits in the wider Barahona area, so it can form part of a trip to the south-west of the country. Its address is given simply as Barahona Province, so it is worth checking the route and access arrangements before you set out. For questions about visiting, the park can be reached by telephone at +1-809-472-4204.

Come prepared for a warm, open environment, and keep a respectful distance from the wildlife, particularly the crocodiles.
