About
Jerash is an ancient city in northern Jordan, in the Middle East, known in antiquity as Gerasa and also as Antioch on the Golden River. It was one of the cities of the Decapolis, and today it is valued as one of the best preserved Greco-Roman cities in the world.
What to see
The site is laid out around the remains of its original urban plan. Visitors walk along colonnaded streets, past theatres, temples and plazas. The surviving stonework gives a clear sense of how Roman towns were organised, with public spaces, monumental buildings and long avenues all visible on the ground.
