About
The Hamburger Bahnhof is a museum for contemporary art in Berlin, housed in a former railway station on Invalidenstraße. It is also known as the Museum für Gegenwart, or Museum of Contemporary Art, and it sits in the Mitte district, within reach of the city's central streets.
The building and the collection
The museum occupies a converted station, and the old railway hall gives the galleries a spacious, open character. Its collection focuses on art from 1960 onwards, and visitors will find works by Andy Warhol and Anselm Kiefer among the pieces on display.
What a visit offers
- A look at art made from the 1960s to the present day
- Large exhibition spaces inside a former station building
- Work by internationally known artists such as Warhol and Kiefer
For a visitor interested in modern and contemporary art, the Hamburger Bahnhof makes a focused half-day or longer visit. It pairs well with other cultural stops in the Mitte area, where Berlin's galleries, museums and historic streets are close together.
