About
The Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as the Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, lies near Jorhat in Assam, in north-eastern India. It is the country's only sanctuary set aside specifically for gibbons, and its main purpose is to protect the hoolock gibbon, a species that is endangered.
What you can see
The sanctuary covers upper canopy evergreen forest, and this is where the gibbons live, high among the branches. Because they spend most of their time in the treetops, a visit is usually about listening as much as looking. Patience and a quiet pace give the best chance of seeing these animals move through the forest.
