About

Cahuachi Archaeological Complex lies in the Nazca Province of the Ica Region in southern Peru, also known as the Cahuachi Ceremonial Center. It is the most important ceremonial site of the Nazca civilization, and a visit here gives a sense of the religious life that shaped the culture most famous for the Nazca Lines.

What you will see

The complex is made up of a collection of pyramids and plazas, the structures used for religious ceremonies. Walking among them, you can picture the gatherings that once took place in these open spaces. The site served as a pilgrimage destination, so it is best approached as a place of ritual and community rather than a single monument to admire from a distance.

Why it matters

Cahuachi is closely associated with the creators of the Nazca Lines, the large geoglyphs etched into the desert nearby. Seeing the ceremonial center helps connect those famous designs to the people who made them and the beliefs they expressed. For many visitors, this context is what turns a desert landscape into a window onto an ancient society.
