About

Brekkefossen, also known as Brekke Falls, is a waterfall in Flåmsdalen, near Flåm in western Norway. It falls about 93 metres down a steep mountainside, and it is one of the best-known sights along the valley.

What to expect

The waterfall is easy to spot from the Flåm Railway, the scenic line that climbs through the Flåmsdalen valley. Its height and the steepness of the slope it runs down make it a striking subject, and it is one of the most photographed falls on the route. If you are travelling by train, keep a camera ready as you pass it.

Around the falls

Brekkefossen sits within a valley that is well suited to a slow, scenic day. Flåm itself is a small village at the end of the fjord, with a range of places to stay and eat, and a short walk or a train ride brings you into the surrounding landscape. For many visitors the falls are one part of a longer trip through the valley rather than a destination on their own.

If you are deciding whether to go, the waterfall is a good choice for anyone who enjoys dramatic scenery and photography, and it fits naturally into a journey on the Flåm Railway.
