About
Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) is a statue of Jesus Christ standing on Corcovado mountain, looking out over Rio de Janeiro. It is about 98 feet (30 metres) tall and is built in the Art Deco style, with outstretched arms that have become one of the most recognisable images of Brazil.
What to expect
The monument is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and is the country's most familiar landmark. Its position high above the city means the visit is as much about the view as the statue itself. On a clear day, the surrounding city, beaches and mountains can be seen from the platform beneath the figure.
- A bright, open-air setting on a mountaintop
- A close look at a large Art Deco religious sculpture
- Wide views across Rio de Janeiro
Getting there and around
The statue stands at Alto da Boa Vista, within the Tijuca National Park, at the address Parque Nacional da Tijuca, Alto da Boa Vista, Rio de Janeiro, RJ 20531-590, Brazil. Because it sits inside a national park, the wider green surroundings are part of the experience, and the city below offers plenty to pair with a trip up the mountain.
