About

Weltberühmtes Museum für moderne Kunst mit internationaler zeitgenössischer Kunst, Skulpturengärten und atemberaubenden Blicken auf den Øresund. Bekannt für seine Architektur und wechselnden Ausstellungen.

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art stands on the coast of North Zealand, in Humlebæk, a short way north of Copenhagen. It is a museum of international contemporary art, set among gardens and buildings that open onto views of the Øresund, the strait that separates Denmark from Sweden.

What to expect

  • Changing exhibitions: the museum is known for its rotating shows, so what you see on one visit may differ from the next.
  • Sculpture in the open air: the grounds hold sculpture gardens, and walking between the works is part of the visit.
  • Sea views: the museum's position above the Øresund gives many of its rooms and paths a view of the water.
  • Architecture: the museum is valued for its buildings as well as its collection, and the way the galleries sit within the landscape is a large part of its appeal.

Getting there and around

The museum is at Gl Strandvej 13, 3050 Humlebæk, on the coastal road through North Zealand. Humlebæk is a small town, so the museum is best reached as a day outing from Copenhagen, with the rail line to Humlebæk and a walk or short onward trip from the station. The coast around the museum makes a pleasant setting for a slow afternoon, with time to walk the grounds before or after you go inside.

If you want to check opening arrangements or exhibition details before you travel, the museum can be reached by telephone at +45 49 19 07 19.
