About

Zugänglicher Arm des Jostedalsbreen-Gletschers, Europas größtem Festlandgletscher. Bietet geführte Gletscherwanderungen und Bootsfahrten über den Gletschersee.

Nigardsbreen Glacier is an accessible arm of Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on the European mainland. It lies in Jostedalen, in the Jostedal valley of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, and is also known as the Nigard Glacier.

What a visit offers

The glacier is a good choice for visitors who want to see ice up close without a long expedition. Two kinds of experience are on offer:

  • Guided glacier walks, which take you out onto the ice with a guide.
  • Boat trips across the glacial lake, which give a view of the ice front from the water.

Planning your trip

The glacier sits within a nature reserve, so it suits a day spent outdoors, with time for both walking and a trip on the lake. Because the glacier is a natural landscape, conditions on the ice can change, and it is worth contacting the operators ahead of your visit to confirm what is running. The site can be reached by phone at +47 57 68 32 50.

Jostedalen is a rural valley, so it is best seen as a destination in its own right rather than a quick stop. Visitors who come for the glacier are drawn to the wider landscape of the Jostedal area, which is known for its mountains, valleys and lakes around the ice.
