About
Fløyen is one of the seven mountains that rise around Bergen, on the west coast of Norway. It sits just above the city centre and is also known as Mount Fløyen or Fløyfjellet. From its summit, visitors look out over Bergen's rooftops, harbour and surrounding fjords, which makes it a natural place to understand how the city is set between water and hills.
Getting up
Most visitors reach the top on the Fløibanen, the funicular railway that runs up the mountainside from the town. The ride is short and gives a steady view of the city as the car climbs. Those who prefer to walk can take one of the trails that lead up through the woods, which offers a slower approach and a different perspective on the slopes.
At the summit
Fløyen is a popular hiking destination, with a network of trails for walkers of different levels. Restaurants at the top make it easy to stay for a meal or a coffee while enjoying the panorama, and the place works well for an unhurried afternoon.
