About
Kissima Diabaté is a Senegalese percussionist, singer, dancer, songwriter and griot, and his concert at Balattou in Montreal on November 27, 2026 brings the musical traditions of Senegal and Mali to the stage. It is a concert for listeners who want to hear West African music played live by an artist who works across several disciplines at once.
About the artist
Kissima Diabaté has performed with a range of forms. He spent nine years with the National Ballet of Senegal, and his work as a dancer sits alongside his playing and singing. He has also founded and directs several ensembles, including Nanou Jappo, Keur Sénégal, Jam Ak Jam and Groupe Kiss. As a griot, he carries a tradition in which music, song and oral history are closely linked, so the evening draws on the storytelling as well as the rhythm.
The venue
The concert takes place at Balattou, at 4372 Boul. Saint-Laurent, in Montreal, Quebec. The venue lies on the city's Saint-Laurent Boulevard, a long street known for its mix of neighbourhoods, restaurants and cultural life, so a visit can easily combine the show with time spent exploring the surrounding area.
