About

Betws-y-Coed is a village in north Wales, known as the gateway to Snowdonia. It lies in a valley where three rivers meet, with ancient woodland rising on the slopes around it and mountain scenery beyond. For many visitors it is the place they stay before heading out into the national park, though it is just as easy to visit for a slower day.

The village itself

The centre is built largely from stone in the Victorian style, and its streets are lined with small shops, cafes and traditional inns. The village has welcomed visitors since the railway arrived in 1868, and that long history of hospitality still shapes the place. You can settle into a cosy cafe, browse for local crafts, or stop for a drink in one of the older inns before continuing your day.

Walking and outdoor life

Adventure seekers often use Betws-y-Coed as a base for hiking, and the surrounding landscape gives plenty of choice, from woodland paths by the rivers to routes climbing into the mountains. Outdoor gear shops in the village make it easy to pick up supplies or equipment before setting off. Those who prefer not to walk far can still enjoy the rivers and woodland close to the centre.

Whether you come for the mountains, the woods or simply a quiet break among stone houses and running water, Betws-y-Coed makes an easy and pleasant place to spend time in Wales.
