About

Un Sitio Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO y estación ferroviaria histórica que exhibe arquitectura del Renacimiento Gótico Victoriano. Una de las estaciones de tren más transitadas de India.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, also known as Victoria Terminus or CST, is a railway station in the Fort area of Mumbai, Maharashtra. It stands on Dadabhai Naoroji Road and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it one of the city's most important historic landmarks.

Architecture

The building is a fine example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture. Visitors who look up from the concourse will see pointed arches, ornate stonework, and detailed carvings that reward a slow walk around the exterior. Its facades are especially striking in the early morning and in the evening, when the light falls across the carved stone.

What a visit is like

The station is one of the busiest railway stations in India, so a visit is as much about watching daily life as admiring the building. Expect crowds, especially during peak commuting hours. Some practical points to bear in mind:

  • Allow time to explore the exterior and the main hall at a relaxed pace.
  • Keep your belongings close, as the station is very busy.
  • If you wish to confirm details before going, the station can be reached by phone at +91 22 2262 0502.

The surrounding area

CST sits in the Fort district, a neighbourhood of colonial-era buildings, busy streets and small cafés. Because the station is central, it is a convenient starting point for exploring the old quarters of Mumbai on foot or by taxi, combining a railway heritage stop with a wider walk through the city's historic core.
