About
Corniglia is one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast of Italy, in the province of La Spezia. It is set apart from its neighbours in a distinctive way: it is the only one of the five not directly on the sea. Instead, it sits on a cliff about 100 metres above sea level, and reaching it is part of the experience.
What to expect
The village is known for its narrow medieval streets, which wind between old stone houses and lead to lookouts over the coast. Its panoramic terraces offer wide views along the shoreline and over the sea, making it a good place to pause and look out. The pace is unhurried, and wandering the lanes without a fixed plan suits many visitors.
Getting there and around
- Corniglia is on Via Fieschi, in the 19010 postcode area of the Cinque Terre.
- Because the village is elevated, the approach involves climbing, so comfortable footwear is worth bringing.
- The village works well as a stop within a longer walk or day trip along the Cinque Terre coast.
