About

Cordillera Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO que presenta arte rupestre ancestral de los san, senderos de senderismo y paisajes espectaculares. Los picos más altos de Sudáfrica.

The Drakensberg Mountains, also known by the name uKhahlamba, form a mountain range in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The range is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it is home to some of the highest peaks in the country.

What the visit offers

Visitors come for the scenery. The escarpment rises sharply and its peaks, valleys and rock faces change in colour and shadow through the day, which makes the range a rewarding place to look at as much as to walk through.

The mountains are also known for their ancient San rock art, which survives in the shelters and caves across the range. Seeing it is part of what gives a trip here its particular character, linking the landscape to the people who lived in it long before.

Walking and hiking

The range is well suited to hiking, with a network of trails of different lengths and difficulty. Walkers can choose a short outing to a viewpoint or commit to a longer route into the mountains. Conditions can change quickly at altitude, so it helps to plan ahead and check locally before setting out.
