About

Área protegida que abarca el sagrado lago Khövsgöl y la naturaleza circundante, hogar de diversa fauna silvestre incluyendo ovejas argali y osos pardos.

Khövsgöl Nuur National Park lies in Khövsgöl Province in northern Mongolia, built around the lake of the same name and the wild country that surrounds it. The park is also known as Khovsgol Lake National Park, and both names point to the same place: a protected landscape of water, forest and open mountain.

The lake is the heart of the park and is regarded as sacred locally, which gives a visit a quieter, more reflective character than a typical outdoor trip. Much of the surrounding land is wilderness, so the setting feels remote and largely undeveloped.

What you might see

The park is home to a range of wildlife, and the protected land is a place where animals can move with relatively little disturbance. Among the species it supports are:

  • Argali sheep, a wild sheep of the mountains
  • Brown bears, which live in the forests and hills of the reserve

Spotting animals in the wild is never guaranteed, so it is best to treat wildlife as a bonus rather than a fixed expectation.

Planning a visit

Khövsgöl Nuur suits visitors who want wide open space, clean water and time outdoors rather than urban sights. The park is a protected area, so visitors should follow the guidance of park staff and keep to the rules that help preserve the wildlife and the lake.

For practical details such as access routes, seasons and facilities, check current information from the park authorities or a local tour operator before you set out, as conditions in remote areas can change.
