About

Célèbre basilique catholique construite en 1754, connue pour sa réputation miraculeuse et les rubans colorés de vœux attachés à ses grilles. L'un des sites de pèlerinage les plus importants du Brésil.

The Basilica of the Lord of Bonfim, also known as the Igreja do Senhor do Bonfim, stands on Largo do Bonfim in the Bonfim district of Salvador, Brazil. The church dates from 1754 and is one of the city's best-known religious buildings, as well as one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the country.

What to expect

The basilica is a Catholic church with a strong devotional life. Many visitors come to pray, and the building is known for its reputation for miracles. The most striking sight is outside the gates, where colorful ribbons have been tied to the railings. Each ribbon is traditionally tied with a wish, and the sight of so many fluttering together gives the square a lively, personal feel.
