About

Bcharre is a mountain town in northern Lebanon, set high in the Lebanese mountains. Its stone houses step down terraced slopes, and from many of its streets the view opens over the Qadisha Valley far below. It makes a calm, scenic stop for anyone travelling through the north of the country.

Gibran's birthplace

Bcharre is the birthplace of the poet Kahlil Gibran, and the town keeps his memory close. A museum dedicated to him lets visitors learn about the man behind the town's best-known name and see the setting that shaped him. For many, it is the reason to make the climb up.

Cedars and the mountains

The town is also the gateway to the Cedars of God, an ancient forest and one of the most significant cedar groves in Lebanon. Walking among these trees gives a sense of the landscape that has long defined the country, and it pairs naturally with a visit to the town itself.

Beyond the museum and the forest, visitors can take in the traditional mountain culture that still marks life in Bcharre. The town suits a slower pace: a walk through the terraced streets, a long look at the valley, and time spent in the high air.

Plan your visit

  • Allow time for the Gibran museum and the town's streets.
  • Reserve a stretch of the day for the cedar groves.
  • Bring walking shoes, since the town is built on steep slopes.
