About

La colline derrière le monastère des Capucins offre l'un des plus beaux points de vue surélevés de Monterosso, avec des vues spectaculaires sur la vieille ville et la ville nouvelle ainsi que sur la mer qui s'étend jusqu'à l'horizon.

The Cappuccini Hill Viewpoint sits on the hill behind the Capuchin monastery in Monterosso al Mare, the largest of the five villages of the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast of Italy. It is also known as the Colle dei Cappuccini or the Convento dei Cappuccini Overlook, and the address to look for is Via dei Cappuccini, 19016 Monterosso al Mare.

What the visit offers

The climb rewards you with an elevated view over the town. From here you can take in both the old town and the newer part of Monterosso, with the sea stretching out to the horizon. It is a good place to pause, look down over the rooftops and the shoreline, and get a sense of how the village is laid out along the coast.

Planning your trip

  • Allow time for the walk up, which is a hill path rather than a level stroll, and wear comfortable shoes.
  • Visit the viewpoint as part of a wider walk around Monterosso, since the town's beaches, streets and harbour are all close by.
  • Bring water and something to shade you on warmer days, as there is little cover on the hill.

Because the viewpoint is reached from the monastery area, it works well as a quieter counterpoint to the busier seafront. Many visitors combine it with a stroll through the old town before or after the climb.
