About

Une magnifique cascade de 30 mètres accessible par un sentier de randonnée à travers la forêt tropicale primaire. L'une des cascades les plus photographiées du parc national de Corcovado.

Catarata La Leona, also known as La Leona Falls, is a waterfall in Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica's Puntarenas Province. It stands about 30 metres high and is reached by a hiking trail through primary rainforest, so the walk in is as much part of the visit as the falls themselves.

What to expect

The route runs through the park's dense, undisturbed forest, where the canopy closes overhead and the light and sounds change with every stretch of trail. Visitors reach the falls on foot, and the reward is a clear view of a tall cascade set within the greenery of the rainforest. It is one of the more frequently photographed waterfalls in Corcovado, a park known for its biodiversity.

Because the falls lie inside a national park and the approach is on foot through forest, it suits visitors who enjoy walking and wildlife-rich landscapes. Puerto Jiménez, the nearest town, is the usual base for travellers heading into the park, and it is worth checking access arrangements with the park before you set out.
