About

Un château romantique construit à l'origine au XIIe siècle et reconstruit aux XIXe-XXe siècles dans le style des châteaux de la Loire française. L'un des châteaux les plus visités de Slovaquie, mais historiquement lié à la noblesse tchèque.

Bojnice Castle stands in the small town of Bojnice, in the Trenčín Region of western Slovakia. Its full address is Zámok a okolie 1, 972 01 Bojnice, and it is also known by its Slovak name, Bojnický zámok.

The castle has its roots in the 12th century, but much of what visitors see today comes from reconstruction in the 19th and 20th centuries. The work was carried out in the style of the French Loire châteaux, which gives the building its romantic character: pointed towers, steep roofs and a picturesque silhouette that suits a visit on a sunny afternoon as well as a grey one.

What a visit offers

  • A castle that ranks among the most visited in Slovakia, so it is a natural stop on a journey through the country.
  • Architecture that blends medieval origins with later nineteenth-century design, giving the building a distinctive look.
  • A historical link to Czech nobility, which adds a regional dimension to the story of the site.

The castle is a good choice for anyone interested in old residences and their gardens and grounds, and for travellers who want a half-day outing from the surrounding region of Trenčín.
