About
Håbo is a municipality in Uppsala County, in central Sweden. It lies along the shore of Lake Mälaren, the large lake that runs through the Mälardalen region west of Stockholm and Uppsala.
What the area is like
Håbo mixes two kinds of landscape. Much of the municipality is rural countryside, with fields, woods and quiet roads that suit a slow pace. Alongside it are suburban communities where people live and commute, so the place feels more lived-in than a remote village would. The lake is the thread that ties these parts together, and its shoreline gives the municipality much of its character.
Why you might visit
- Lakeside scenery: Mälaren's shore is the main draw, suited to walks, a slow drive, or simply sitting by the water.
- Countryside contrast: If you want to step out of the city for a day, the rural stretches offer open land and space to breathe.
- A base within reach of larger places: Håbo sits in the same region as Uppsala and Stockholm, so it can serve as a calmer place to stay while you explore further afield.
Planning your trip
Because Håbo is spread between countryside and suburbs rather than gathered around one centre, it is worth looking at a map before you go and deciding which part you want to see. Getting around is easiest with your own transport, and the lake and fields are best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Check local arrangements for any specific site you plan to visit before setting out.
