About

Situé sur le point le plus au nord de l'île de Kalsoy, ce phare offre des vues spectaculaires après une randonnée difficile. La marche sur la crête en lame de couteau n'est pas pour les âmes sensibles.

Kallur Lighthouse stands on the northernmost point of Kalsoy, an island in Denmark. It is a lighthouse, but for many visitors the reason to come is the walk that leads to it rather than the tower itself.

What the visit involves

Reaching the lighthouse means a hike, and the route is challenging. Part of it follows a knife-edge ridge, a narrow crest with steep ground falling away on either side. The description of this section is clear: it is not for the faint of heart. Visitors who are uneasy with heights or exposed paths should weigh that before setting out.

Why it is worth the effort

  • The lighthouse sits at the far northern tip of the island, so the setting is remote and open.
  • The views from the point are described as spectacular, and the reward for the climb comes at the end.
  • The walk itself, with its ridge and changing ground, is part of the experience.

Because the lighthouse is at the edge of the island, it suits a visit built around the landscape: a day of walking, time to stop and look out to sea, and a slow return on the same route.

Planning a trip

Kalsoy is a quiet island, and the approach to Kallur is a full hike rather than a short stroll. Wear sturdy footwear, check the weather before setting out, and allow enough daylight to walk both ways. If the ridge looks too exposed on the day, it is reasonable to turn back. The lighthouse will still be there another time.
