About

Voïvodie du sud de la Pologne abritant Kraków, ancienne capitale de la Pologne, connue pour sa vieille ville médiévale, le château de Wawel et son riche patrimoine culturel.

Lesser Poland Voivodeship is a province in southern Poland, and it takes its name from the historic region of Lesser Poland. Its best-known city is Kraków, the country's former capital, which gives the whole area much of its character for visitors.

Most travellers come for Kraków itself. Its medieval Old Town is the centrepiece, with streets and squares that reward slow walking, and Wawel Castle rises above the city as one of its most recognisable landmarks. The province as a whole is known for its rich cultural heritage, so a visit tends to be as much about history and the arts as about scenery.

What a visit offers

  • Historic architecture in Kraków's Old Town and around Wawel Castle
  • Cultural life reflected in the region's long heritage
  • A base in southern Poland for exploring beyond the city

Planning your trip

Because the province centres on Kraków, many visitors find it easiest to plan around the city and then make shorter trips outward. Those who like a mix of old streets, castles and cultural sites will find the area a natural fit. Check opening arrangements for specific sites before setting out, as these can change.
